Breastfeeding is a natural act, but with the challenges of returning to work early and the lack of accurate information, it may not be as simple an experience as it seems. If your wish is to breastfeed, but you have doubts about how it will go, what you can do to ensure everything runs smoothly, or if you've had a less positive experience before, this consultation is for you. The breastfeeding preparation consultation aims to prepare both the mother and the partner for the breastfeeding process and help clarify all doubts.
When to schedule? We recommend scheduling the consultation between 30 and 36 weeks of gestation (for low-risk pregnancies), so that the information provided is useful before birth and doubts can be resolved in advance.
What is covered in the consultation:
- Anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding: Understand the process of milk production and how your body is prepared for breastfeeding.
- How to deal with milk let-down: Tips and guidance on what to expect when milk starts to come in and how to deal with possible discomforts.
- Feeding on demand: What it means to feed the baby on demand and how it can benefit both the baby and the mother.
- How to protect breastfeeding: Strategies to ensure breastfeeding happens in the best possible way, avoiding difficulties such as cracked nipples and other problems.
- Myths about breastfeeding: Debunking misconceptions about breastfeeding to help you have a more peaceful experience.
Personalized consultation: In addition to general topics, the consultation will be adjusted to your specific questions, ensuring that you and your partner (or another support person) feel prepared and confident for breastfeeding.
Additional benefits:
- The consultation includes a postpartum breastfeeding consultation, held up to 2 weeks after the baby's birth, to monitor and adjust any difficulties or questions.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour.
Who can attend? The pregnant woman and the father (or any other person who will provide support during breastfeeding).
This consultation is essential to ensure that breastfeeding happens in the best possible way, promoting a positive experience for both mother and baby.
