Breastfeeding is a natural act, but with the challenges of returning to work early and the lack of accurate information, it may not be as simple an experience as it seems. If you want to breastfeed, but have doubts about how it will go, what you can do to ensure everything goes well, or if you have had a previous less positive experience, this consultation is for you. The breastfeeding preparation consultation aims to prepare both the mother and her partner for the breastfeeding process and help clarify any doubts.
When to schedule? We recommend scheduling the appointment between 30 and 36 weeks of gestation (for low-risk pregnancies), so that the information provided is useful before birth and any questions can be resolved in advance.
What is covered in the consultation:
- Anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding: Understand the milk production process and how your body is prepared to breastfeed.
- How to deal with milk let-down: Tips and guidance on what to expect when your milk starts to come in and how to deal with any potential discomfort.
- On-demand feeding: What it means to feed your baby on demand and how it can benefit both baby and mother.
- How to protect breastfeeding: Strategies to ensure that breastfeeding happens in the best possible way, avoiding difficulties such as cracked nipples and other problems.
- Breastfeeding Myths: Debunking misconceptions about breastfeeding to help you have a smoother experience.
Personalized consultation: In addition to general topics, the consultation will be tailored to your specific concerns, ensuring that you and your partner (or other support person) feel prepared and confident about breastfeeding.
Additional benefits:
- The consultation includes a postpartum breastfeeding consultation , carried out up to 2 weeks after the baby is born, to monitor and adjust any difficulties or doubts.
Duration: About 2 to 3 hours.
Who can attend? The pregnant woman and the father (or any other person who will provide support during breastfeeding).
This consultation is essential to ensure that breastfeeding happens in the best possible way, promoting a positive experience for both mother and baby.
